We have the opportunity for other government organizations to include themselves on our contract, it's called piggybacking. Piggyback contracts help to simplify the procurement process and speed things up.
What we made happen:
The City of Los Angeles had a limited battery contract that supplied them with only wet acid starting batteries. They had the need for a contract that would supply them with premium AGM dual purpose batteries for their emergency vehicles and starting AGM batteries for their standard fleet vehicles. They were lacking a contract that would supply them with on-board chargers for their emergency vehicles and chargers for recharging their dead batteries.
Advanced Battery Systems had a contract with Los Angeles World Airports. This contract contained the products that the City of Los Angeles was looking to acquire. We provided the City of Los Angeles purchasing agent with a copy of our LAWA contract and they developed their version of the contract.
In 2014, the City of Los Angeles put out to bid a new enhanced version of this contract that was awarded to Advanced Battery Systems. It also has the provision for other government agencies to make purchases using the prices terms and conditions of this contract. Since then, we have been able to assist other government agencies with piggy backing this contract for their procurement needs.
