The Challenge
A local city had a series of solar panels with individual large wet flooded batteries mounted in boxes at a height of about 12 feet on each light pole in a large outdoor parking area. Doing preventative maintenance on the units with a cherry picker was cumbersome and adding water was an even larger issue. Due to the fact that the batteries were not checked properly, they ended up needing to replace them after noticing that they were not working after about 18 months. This was a liability issue on several fronts.

The Solution
We checked the draw on the batteries when the lights were in use and determined that they could go with a smaller battery and still get the run time they required. We recommended that they switch to sealed AGM batteries. The batteries we used have a 4 year free replacement will require much less cumbersome preventative maintenance at longer intervals and no watering. We believe this solution will triple their life expectancy.
